Knocklofty Reserve
The great thing about Knocklofty Reserve is it’s a looped hike, that’s about 4.1km. You don’t need to backtrack your own steps, there’s always something new for the dog to explore, and it’s a nice 1 hour walk. There’s also a bit of a push required to get up a steep climb on a fire trail to Knocklofty Reserve Summit - which is good for fitness!
Knocklofty Reserve is easily accessible, just 3km from the Hobart city centre and located in West Hobart. There is also free parking, just turn left on Forest Road from Molle St, then turn right into spacious free parking at Knocklofty Parking and Picnic Area. And always a helpful bonus, there’s a bin with dog poo bags at the start of the walk.
In terms of directions, just head along the trail from the car park, veer up and left at the first junction (you can go slightly up and left, or down and right) and keep to the left as you go all the way up the Summit Track, which is a fire trail. At the top is Knocklofty Summit, and then it’s a lovely walk down, with some steps in place in the steeper areas, back down into an off-leash area as you head back to the car park.
